DAS TECHNOLOGY
Environmental surveillance

Environmental impact:
• Along underwater cables, DAS can monitor marine life, underwater currents, earthquakes, tsunamis which can be part of disaster preparedness and early warning systems.
• Detect possible leakage and pollution from underwater gas and oil pipes.
• By analyzing acoustic signals, it contributes to oceanographic studies and researchers can gain insights into underwater echo systems and climate patterns to minimize disruption to marine habitats.

Marine mammal detection:
• DAS can monitor whale communication and their localization relative to underwater communication and electrical cables.
• Tracking of marine mammals can help in reducing collisions with larger vessels and offshore activity such as oil and gas production facilities and in connection with marine explorations activity, such as seismic operations.

Tracking of whales over a time period of a few hours by the use of DAS-data recorded from two communication cables offshore Svalbard.
